Tucked Reverse In a compound microscope, the objectives are placed such that
they are positioned back towards the arm of the microscope allowing for
ease of inserting or removing slides from the stage.
Vertical binocular Only the Ken-A-Vision T-2400 has this feature. The
binocular lens are placed vertically, directly above the objective lenses.
45° Angle - All Ken-A-Vision microscopes are position with a 45° angled head,
allowing for an ergomatically comfortable position for the average
microscope user.
360 ° Rotation By loosening a knurled set screw, most Ken-A-Vision
microscopes allow for the head to be rotated 360° on the microscope
stand, so that the eyepiece can be viewed from any side without moving
the whole microscope.
Image Rate (see Frame Rate, and Video Standards)
Image Resolution - A measurement of the quality of a video image based on the number
of pixels that make up the image.
Incident Light (see Light Sources)
Iris (Camera) As a general principle, the iris of a camera adjusts the brightness of the
image. On CCD cameras, there is a physical iris whose opening is adjusted by
electrical impulse. The iris of a camera changes the incident light striking the
video chip. On CMOS cameras, white balance is adjusted by driver properties,
changing the brightness of the image. (see also White Balance)
Iris diaphragm (microscopes) a device consisting of thin, overlapping metal plates that
can be adjusted to form an aperture of varying diameter regulating the amount of
light entering the microscope. In Ken-A-Vision microscopes it is included as a
part of a sub-stage Abbe condenser apparatus. (see also Condenser-Abbe)
JPEG - Joint Photographic Experts Group. An international standard for still picture
data compression. In Applied Vision for Windows, this is the default storage
mode for single images.
Ken-A-Vision Capture for Macintosh (also see software) A viewing and capture
application for Macintosh OS 10 and above. It is provided with all cameras
which are supported on OS 10. User is then able to utilize all Macintosh image
software available to them on their Macintosh computer.
